Anyone seen this weeks County Press - apparently the Council are considering allocating 11 sites for wind turbines. Now we'll all have our own views about whether or not they're a good thing but ponder on this :
1. Wind turbines produce power by exploiting the difference in speed
between the air and the ground.
2. They slow the wind down - not a big problem as the sun keeps on
making more wind.
3. They also push against the ground, thus slowing the rotation of the
Earth. Not by much perhaps, but with more and more wind farms
sprouting up, how long will it be before the Earth stops spinning
altogether?
Life is already pretty slow here on the IoW. Do we really want it to slow even further. And another thing - when the earth stops rotating all together half the world will be in permanent darkness and half in light. I just hope we're in the light half....
