3Jam text service : Cancelled

Postby mhrluscombe on Fri Jul 18, 2008 8:20 am

Unfortunately the 3Jam business are now charging for the text message relaying, 5p per mesage per user. This means it is no longer economical for us to use. I will close the account.

Cheers, Mark.

============================================

If you want to be added to the flywight 3jam group please send me your mobile number, mark at plumjam.co.uk.

If I have already added you to the group you should get a message next time it is flyable and someone sends out a notification.

So, how does it work?

Step 1: Save the 3jam Phone Number

Save the 3jam number to your phone's address book.

UK - +447797806160

Step 2: Start a 3jam!

If you want to initiate a text around, simply send 'broadcast' followed by 'flywight .' and then your message. After that you can just reply to the messages.

For example:

broadcast flywight . the reds and whites are on, barney is playing golf.

(Take note that you need to make sure you use 'space, full-stop, space' between flywight and your message)

Please don't send out a test message. If you have not received a message from someone in the next few days contact me at mark at plumjam.co.uk.

For more commands, like opting out when you go on holiday or to change your settings, check out http://www.3jam.com/help_commands.php.

There's 24 in the group now, so hopefully there will be someone somewhere who can alert others to where it's flyable.

Some ground rules:

1) We're using this as an on the hill service, so send out notifications if you are actually there, or can see the hill. In terms of updating on the conditions, if you can, do. If you get a notification in the morning, but can only come out in the evening, either check an online weather station or phone someone you know will be on the hill to get an update on the conditions.

2) To minimise the number of texts, it's important that this is seen as mainly a one way service - i.e. whoever is on the hill sending out a report on conditions. It would be a very bad use of the service for someone who is not on the hill to send out a message to the whole group saying something like "Is it flyable yet?". If you want to ask someone if it's flyable, phone or text them individually - and get them to send out a 3jam giving conditions.

3) However, if you are on the hill, PLEASE use the service to send a condition report.

4) If you get a notification and you're at work/getting brownie points at home/can't come out flying for some other reason - sorry! Hopefully you'll be able to take some pleasure in the fact that someone else is having a good time.

5) The texts cost around 20p to send and should be free to receive.

6) Members of the service should not add new people to the flywight 3Jam service themselves. Requests to be added to the service should be sent to mark at plumjam.co.uk.

7) As the flywight 3Jam service promotes flying on IWHGPC sites, members of service are expected to be paid up members of the club.

Happy flying and let me know if you have any comments/questions.

Mark.
